Vanilla Drop is a giant, free standing, crochet ice cream cone sculpture standing over six feet tall. The cone is meant to look like it was dropped on a warm day and is starting to melt. I used a few different techniques to achieve the “meltyness” on the bottom of the scoop. It also took a lot of technique and structural work to get it standing at the angle its at. I chose to depict the cone at an angle for dramatic effect. I wanted it to look like it was about to fall over at any moment, while it’s actually very sturdy. This piece was part of my first solo exhibition, Comfy Foods and is an original work, not from any type of pattern. I try to make a statement with my work that crochet is so much more than a hobby or craft, it is an artform.
