I handcrafted this dapper top hat out of the softest Merino wool. It is wet felted around a flat resist and is made up four layers of fiber. The color is petrol grey with accents of turquoise blue. Silver lace fabric has been nunofelted in the front section to add sparkle and wonder. Two metallic blue, glass stones have been enclosed in felt and decorate the center front of the hat.

The shape of the hat is a sort of whimsical, Steampunk version of a top hat or Mad Hatter Hat, with the tippy top curving outward. On the front there are wavy flanges of thin felt that are reminiscent of Japanese Samurai helmets. The inside of the hat has hand-dyed blue silk fabric. I’ve hand sewn in an adjustable, grosgrain ribbon so this hat can be made smaller or larger depending upon what is needed.

This felted top hat is included in an upcoming exhibition: Wearable Expressions International Juried Exhibition of Wearable Art 2017.
