Mark Montano

Hello there wonderful people! Here’s a little about yours truly. First, I am the author of 10 craftily delicious books and have starred in several television series (which we’ll get into in a minute). I started my career in fashion as an intern for Oscar de la Renta while attending FIT in New York City. Right after I graduated from FIT, I branched out with my own collection. The first store to carry my clothes was Patricia Field, the costume designer responsible for SEX AND THE CITY!

My passion for fashion all started when I received a sewing machine for my 13th birthday, and the rest, as they say, is history. By the way, I still have that Singer sewing machine! I started out simply by designing shirts for myself and blouses for my Mom, but that quickly progressed to cocktail dresses, sport coats, and even my own tuxedo for my prom. I went on to open my first boutique in the East Village of New York city in my early 20s. I soon became the youngest member to be inducted into the CFDA, The Council of Fashion Designers of America! Wowza, what an honor!

I loved being a fashion designer and was able to work with some of the biggest names in entertainment, designing for the likes of Carly Simon, Drew Barrymore, Belinda Carlisle, Susan Sarandon, and many many more.

When just working with fabric and designing dresses wasn’t enough for me,I found my niche as an interior designer. It all started with an editor position at CosmoGirl! Magazine with an article I wrote monthly for 10 years called Cool Room. That article turned in to a book, and from the book, I landed in television. Over the last ten years, I’ve hosted and co-hosted 5 television shows, written 10 books and have worked hard to make a name for myself in the world of crafts and DIY.

Every day, I strive to create projects that are easily accessible and customizable for individual taste while simultaneously keeping them stylish and affordable. I don’t believe in following trends, I believe in starting them! You can see all my work in shows like TLC’s While You Were Out and 10 Years Younger, Style Network’s My Celebrity Home, ABC’s The Tony Danza Show and WE TV’s She’s Moving In.
